Hunter Family Dental first opened its doors in Cessnock in 1999, not too far from the beautiful wine country we know as the Hunter Valley. We have expanded over the years and now offer our clients state of the art facilities and a team that strives for excellence in ethical patient care.

Dr Luc Evans
DENTAL SURGEON
BSc(Hons), BDS, FDSRCS (London), MBChB (1st Class honours), MRCS (London)
Having graduated from the Welsh National Dental School with the prize in Restorative Dentistry, Luc is one of very few dentists that also have a first class honours degree in Medicine. He also has qualifications in dentistry and general surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of London and has worked in fields such as Emergency Medicine, Plastic Surgery and Orthopaedics in Britain and Australia. Luc has been a qualified dentist for 17 years and will always continue to take part in on-going training to ensure he is able to provide the best possible up-to-date treatment for his patients.
With a strong surgical background, Luc is delighted to be able to offer complete in-house services such as dental implants. He has also embraced the latest CAD/CAM technology, meaning restorations that previously had to be made by a laboratory can now be made at the practice on the same day. For our patients this means no messy impressions, no temporary restorations and no need for a second visit. Luc is also an accredited provider of Invisalign® clear orthodontic braces hence the straightening of teeth is provided in-house at Hunter Family Dental, without the need for referral.
Outside of work, Luc is a sports-lover. He played for 3 unbeaten seasons for the Wales Under 21 rugby team, including 2 wins against New Zealand. More recently, Luc has loved competing in Ironman triathlon and is a passionate supporter of a charity called the KIDS Foundation – www.kidsfoundation.org.au
Dr Martin Hou
DENTAL SURGEON
MSc(York), BDS
Dr. Martin Hou is a highly experienced dentist with skills encompassing a large scope of dentistry. He graduated with a Master’s degree from The University of York in 2011. He has since continued to pursue further training to expand his knowledge of dentistry.
Dr. Martin Hou is a highly experienced dentist with skills encompassing a large scope of dentistry. He graduated with a Master’s degree from The University of York in 2011. He has since continued to pursue further training to expand his knowledge of dentistry.
Martin has a special interest in comprehensive care, listening to his patients and helping them understand their oral health, their options and how they can maintain or create healthy teeth and a pleasing smile. Fascinated by the latest technological developments in dentistry, Martin is experienced in providing digital dentistry. Redesigning a smile, manufacturing a crown to protect a weakened tooth or replacing missing teeth are all services that Martin can provide using a digital scanner and computer aided design (same-day crowns and bridges).
As a child Martin had some difficult dental experiences that caused him anxiety about dental treatments, until one family dentist helped him get over that fear. This experience has since inspired him. Martin is most focused on providing a caring approach to dentistry. He understands that for many people, the thought of dental treatment can be scary. As a result, he takes his time to carefully explain each procedure and also ensure that patients feel comfortable whilst in the dental chair. He’s even intentionally and personally experienced many of the treatments available himself, so that he can understand what patients are going through!
In his spare time, Martin enjoys spending time with his growing family, 4 wheel driving in his cherished Landrover Defender, competition shooting and playing with his dog Hipo.
Elizabeth Hughes
DENTAL HYGIENIST
Graduating from the University of Newcastle in 2007 with a Bachelor of Oral Health, Elizabeth has been a part of the team at Hunter Family Dental since March 2010.
Never has the saying “prevention is better than cure” been more appropriate than in the dental context. As a practice we place great importance not only on preventing dental and oral disease, but in looking after restorations so that they last as long as possible. Elizabeth is at the forefront of this philosophy as the practice’s dental hygienist.
In addition to her university studies, Elizabeth stays up to date with current research and oral hygiene products by undertaking several professional development courses throughout the year. As dental implants are one of the many services we provide at Hunter Family Dental, Elizabeth has attended courses specifically on implant maintenance. Elizabeth is also qualified to perform dental bleaching procedures within the dental surgery, eliminating the need for a 2 week course of at-home bleaching.
Outside of work, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing netball and golf. Elizabeth embraces the holiday friendly attitude at Hunter Family Dental and has recently returned from a trip to the USA.
